A performance / event / situation … mixed situation in which artists respond to the riddle what is no sooner spoken than broken.
Expect a few objects, no videos and live and ambient situations themed around awkward silences, broken promises, oversharing, and underperforming.
(The answer to the riddle is silence or a secret.)

Question

So some of my prints are going to be in a group show opening in the beginning of September, and since it's new work that I've never framed before I'm weighing my frame options. Would the images from "The Things I Once Owned" look better in black lacquer frames or white lacquer frames? I'll leave the print without glass, with a matte laminate, as usual on the glass front. Any thoughts?

I'm usually one to stick to optical white, but the dark tone of the prints maybe lends itself to black frames... Hmmmm. Is a black frame too conservative?

Artcal!

Identities is a pick on Artcal at the moment! How exciting! Be sure to come out to the Brooklyn Borough Hall Thursday night for the opening, Darren Jones' piece sounds totally amazing and Emily North makes some pretty beautiful work as well!

*Actually, it's featured, not a pick. I suppose that makes sense since it hasn't opened yet.

DIY WPA Opening 3/15 at Envoy Enterprises

Joe Sheftel is proud to present DIY WPA at Envoy Gallery. This show looks at art production since the fall of Lehman Brothers on September 15th. While other groups may obtain bailouts or credit-lines, artists will apparently not be getting a new deal. Together the art community can promote and show new work, regardless of market conditions. This show includes the work of emerging artists Kenny Corbett, Gregg Evans, Paul Kopkau, Alex Kwartler, Chris Moukarbel, Yuri Shibuya and Rachel Warriner. There is a special performance by Del Marquis and Embryoroom at 7:30. After party and tunes at Home Sweet Home with the amazing DJ Christy Love. Please join, look at art and dance. The Show runs from March 15 -March 22 in the Front Gallery.

The opening is from 6-8, this Sunday. Come by and say hello!
