Registered

Some Installation images of the Registered show I found on the White Columns website. I also really like what they wrote about the project:

"Gregg Evans presents a selection of photographs from “The Things I Once Owned” series, a recent body of work which was prompted by the sale of his childhood home. In the artist’s former bedroom, Evans meticulously staged and photographed belongings from his childhood and adolescence. The depicted objects range from such keepsakes as a card from his grandmother, a photograph of his father, to mementos from his teen years, i.e., autographs by the band Le Tigre in a day planner, art school catalogs, a collection of pins… suggesting a personal, yet unresolved, narrative. Evans’ process is closely linked to performance and challenges the idea of the document and its relationship to sentimentality, nostalgia and permanence. "

It's a slow day at work, sue me.

Website Redesign

There's still a few kinks to be worked out, but my friend Stephen redesigned my website for me last night, and I'm super excited about the results. There are 3 bodies of work up now instead of one, and a link to the blog as well! Total excitement.

In other news, I have a print in the 40th Anniversary White Columns Benefit Auction that opens on the 24th at White Columns on Horatio St. I'm among a slew of amazing artists that sort of blow me away to be on a wall with, so check it out when you get the chance and place a bid to help out an awesome non-profit.

The State of Upstate

Some scans of my recent zine, The State of Upstate, which is set to be selling at Dashwood Books in the coming weeks.

I'm pleased with the outcome, for a first attempt since high school, but I think there are a few things I'd like to do differently next time. My friend Sam made his so that the book is actually made of foldout posters, which i totally love. I feel like that may be cheaper, and a little more polished than my attempt, but retain a bit of a home made feel, which was my idea for my project. Some ideas for next time...

I went to some galleries yesterday, but didn't see much I liked. I hate summer shows most of the time, so I guess this comes as no big surprise. I was really excited to see the show up at Plane Space Gallery, since it had some Steven B. Smith work included, but was pretty not thrilled by rest of the work. I normally feel the opposite, but I'm a much bigger fan of Steven Smith's work in black & white than I am in color... The color images felt sort of sentimental, which seems strange for him. I did like the Maureen Keaveny images up however, and as usual, thoroughly enjoyed the work up at White Columns. The Oliver Wasow Expansible Catalog Project up in the back gallery is really quite amazing.
